The family of Kenneth Gemmell still has no answer as to why their son apparently went overboard from Royal Caribbean's 'Allure of the Seas' earlier this month, just days after his birthday. They still want to hear from anyone who might have additional information about Kenneth's activities the night leading up to his disappearance.
Previously we reported to you:
- The initial story, about Kenneth's disappearance, and that he was seen by a witness and by Royal Caribbean's closed circuit cameras 'voluntarily jumping' from the balcony of his cabin. This story was the first time that the family appealed to anyone knowing information about Kenneth the evening before his jump, including an argument that may have ensued in a ship's bar with a crewmember.
- A follow up, where the family insisted that Kenneth was NOT suicidal at the time of his disappearance. The week he was on the cruise, the ship was chartered by Atlantis Events, a sponsor of gay and lesbian themed cruises. This particular cruise was identified as the largest gay and lesbian cruise ever.
The latest picture released to us is of a smiling Kenneth 'Kenny' Gemmell, (attached) during the cruise he took to celebrate his 30th birthday.
A family spokesman told us today that they had received many replies in answer to their call for information, but still don't have enough to answer their questions. They also said that Royal Caribbean has been of little help, not giving out contact details of Kenneth's room mate nor of the bartender who Kenneth allegedly had words with. (Giving out individual's information may be a legal issue for RCL)
The family also says that the Bahamian investigator leading the case has told them that Royal Caribbean has footage of the dispute, and allowed one of their staff off the boat at Cozumel and he didn't return. (Earlier, Royal Caribbean previously said that their video did show Kenneth Gemmell jumping from his balcony in what they described as "voluntarily", and denied that any staff members left during their stop in Cozumel.)
The family also says they haven't been given a copy of the video showing the dispute or the 'alleged jumping' of Kenneth from the ship.
According to the family, Atlantis Events has been 'no help' either in their quest for answers.
There will be a memorial mass for Kenneth Gemmell at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, at Kingscourt, Co Cavan, Ireland, this Friday at 11AM. The mass may be streamed live on the web.
UPDATE: We were contacted Wednesday night with the webcam address for the Church. The mass is likely to be streamed here on the King Court Parish webcam.
The family is still seeking to hear from others who might have spent time with Kenneth while on the cruise. According to them, they just want some measure of closure.
If you have information about the last hours of Kenneth Gemmell's life, the family would love to hear from you at michael@mhynes.com.
