Finding a content provider with credentials was once a challenge. It seemed everyone with a keyboard wanted to try their hand at writing after being downsized. If there is a bright side at all to the recession, it is a redistribution of talent.

Amy Talcott Kennard, owner of Kennard Communications, is a prime example of an experienced writer/editor who was downsized and is now making her talent available to the general marketplace. Kennard comes to the marketplace armed with a dual degree in Journalism & Marketing from Marquette University and years of professional writing and editing experience.

Before being downsized, Kennard wrote for, and later edited, Midwestern Family Magazine. She has a knack for writing newsletters like Heritage Bank’s “On The Money.” She has also written radio spots. You may have seen Kennard’s work on the cover of Healthy Cells.

You will find her work online as well. As evidence of her versatility, she has written content for Illinois Plastics Surgery and Peoria Surgical, as well as DLA Creative. She provides newsletter writing services, business blogging, editing and proofreading.

You are likely to see Kennard’s work in the community in a variety of places. This year she landed the plum assignment of writing the winner profiles for the YWCA Peoria 2010 Leader Luncheon Awards. Kennard says one of the best things about being a writer is the privilege to share the stories of these women who are pillars in the community.

Value of the Written Word

She has a wealth of experience writing as a content provider. Kennard says she is aware that many companies write their own web content, either because they haven't budgeted for a content provider or because they aren't aware of the value of a the written word.

She wrote about the matter under the title of “The Art of Copywriting” for Peoria Magazine. In that article she points out, “An experienced copywriter can be one of your biggest assets as you market your product or service.”

“A lot of people don’t appreciate the value of good writing,” Kennard says. "I am a writer. I do not do brain surgery and brain surgeons are not usually good writers. But I can write copy for a brain surgeon because that is what I do."

Such talent is no longer the possession of a single company. Businesses of any size can hire Kennard's talent on an as-needed basis. For more information, visit Kennard Communications online.
