Rapper Kendrick Lamar performed his hit song, "Swimming Pools" as the musical guest on the latest episode of "Saturday Night Live." However, it's the rap star's guest appearance on a skit song mocking the "YOLO" craze which has people talking about "SNL."
According to a report on Jan. 27 from SOHH.com, Lamar was part of a parody music video which also included Adam Levine and the Andy Samberg group, Lonely Island. The video poked fun at the popular "You Only Live Once," (Y.O.L.O) phrase that rappers including Drake had pushed into the mainstream.
Coincidentally, Lamar had begged NBC to let him be a part of a skit on "SNL" prior to his appearance on the show. He told MTV News:
"Yeah, I'll do a skit. We clown around in the studio all day; I can do it on TV in front of the camera."
Kendrick added his own pitch to the camera asking "SNL" to put him on:
"Put me in one of those skits 'SNL'! Wassup?"
He pretty much got his wish on Saturday night with the hilarious new Lonely Island spoof track. By the way, Kendrick also had his serious performances as well, including the hit songs "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Poetic Justice," both of which appear on his critically-acclaimed album "Good Kid, m.a.a.d. City."
