CNN reports that Michael Moore, the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announced that after reviewing the evidence in Johnson's case he believes that “sufficient basis exists” for federal authorities review the case.
Johnson was found dead inside a gym mat in the gym of Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia in January. Local authorities ruled Johnson's death an accident, but his parents pressed for further investigation.
In early October the world learned that a second autopsy was performed on Johnson in June, and that the Dr. Bill Anderson discovered Johnson's organs had been removed and replaced with newspaper before he was buried.
Moore told reporters that he “will follow the facts wherever they lead,” and added that his “objective is to discover the truth.”
Kendrick's father, Kenneth Johnson told reporters the family is just happy to have a fresh pair of eyes looking at their son's case. Kenneth says the family is just “waiting on the truth to really come out.”
