Kelty to debut the Ascender Series travel collection at the Outdoor Retailer WM (Photos)

After years of making quality packs to carry on your back, Kelty is adding a more civilized way to schlep your gear when the travel situation calls for civilized gear schlepping.

Next week at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, Kelty is set to debut a line of packs, bags and duffels that are customizable for any and all travel situations.

The Ascender Series includes the Ascender 22 bag, Ascender WR Duffel and the Ascender Trunk.

  • Ascender 22 ($349): The foundation bag in the line, the Ascender 22 is a carry-on sized roller with an external chassis and a removable bag. It expands from a tidy 40- to 55-liters to a burly 70-liters. An integrated padded tablet pocket protects your e-delicates.
  • Ascender Trunk ($199): Customizable and gear-friendly, this "trunk" is not your grandma's steamer trunk of yore. It has Velcro dividers with separate gear compartment and easily attaches to the Ascender 22 chassis.
  • Ascender WR Duffel ($149): This smart-looking 65-liter duffel has a coated exterior with a water-resistant interior compartment.

In keeping with the time-honored Kelty tradition, all three bags have backstraps so you can carry them like packs.

Though they are each sold separately, combining the three will hold all your clothes and gear for a month abroad, a week in the tropics, or a long weekend up north.

The Kelty Travel Series will debut at the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show in Salt Lake City this January with retail availability scheduled for Fall 2013.
