Kelly Ripa shares her supplement tips, vegetarian diet and awesome abs secrets

Celebrities such as Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez have been praising plant-based diets for their benefits in losing weight and staying healthy. Kelly Ripa agrees.

"I eat a very clean diet. I always say I'm a vegetarian who occasionally eats sushi," she explained.

If you like the idea of a vegetarian diet with some variety, consider "The Flexitarian Diet: The Mostly Vegetarian Way to Lose Weight, Be Healthier, Prevent Disease, and Add Years to Your Life." In it, nutrition wizard Dawn Jackson Blatner explains how to combine a plant-based diet with occasional servings of fish or other protein to enhance your health and weight loss.

Kelly is a believer in supplements - but we're not talking about Dr. Mehmet Oz-type "miracle" products. "I do take fish oil supplements and vitamin C," she said.

So what's up with the fish oil? These supplements, such as Kirkland Signature Omega-3 Fish Oil Concentrate, provide you with omega-3s. These essential fatty acids (EFAs) have been shown to improve your brain, skin and overall health.

As for vitamin C, it's a winner for glowing skin, immune system optimization, heart health, eye health and more. One of the problems with vitamin C supplements, however: They can be hard to swallow (gulp). Try a version that you can just chew, such as Vitafusion Power C, Gummy Vitamins For Adults.

As for fitness: "I work out every day. It's part of my life," Kelly says firmly.

I work out with a trainer, Anna Kaiser, three days a week. We do what I would call cardio ballet and power yoga. I take spinning classes at SoulCycle, which I love, and I run. I get bored, so I like to mix it up a little bit. I try to make my heart beat out of my chest, hard-core, once a day for at least a half hour. I think that's very important.
