In the wake of the shootings at Kelly Elementary School last Friday, as the entire world watches breathlessly to see the release of the 33 miners in Chile, one thing stands out as a key—praying people
Praying people are behind the miracles that take place in tragedies.
On Friday morning, a local group of Moms-in-Touch gathered to pray for their children in school—as they always did on Friday mornings. Little did they know that their prayers would be catalyst to their children’s protection the very hour they were praying.
When a man shot into Kelly Elementary School, two children were lightly wounded. It could have been much worse. Many could have died or been seriously hurt. Nearby workmen reacted to the tragedy and trapped the shooter. God was at work. He had a provision. And no wonder! Moms were praying.
The 33 minors trapped in Chile for over 2 months are finally being rescued. Given the length of their entrapment, the good humor of the miners can only be described as a miracle. And now their deliverance! But no wonder. Families have prayed. Friends have prayed. The world has prayed.
Anyone who walks close to God and knows how to touch His heart in prayer understands that prayer is a beautiful and powerful gift given by a loving Father who invites His children to come to Him with their requests (Hebrews 4:16). Prayer paves the way for miracles.
Immediately after the recent Carlsbad shootings, one little boy ran to help his friend, one of the wee girls who was shot. His attempt to hug her causes his own little shirt to be spattered with her blood. Part of a praying, Christian family, this little fellow felt the strength of his parents prayers that morning.
If there was ever a time to pray, it is now, on the brink of elections. Who Californians vote for will affect their children’s future. May their votes be guided by prayer.
