Tonight, Dec. 11, Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale special aired on NBC. Clarkson performed various Christmas songs throughout the show, each in a different red dress. Interspersed between the performances were spoof clips of her putting the show together. As the show went on, a young girl read the story aloud to the audience.
Clarkson had “meetings” with Ken Jeong and William Shatner as she pitched her idea for the show before having a lunch date with Trisha Yearwood and Reba McEntire. As a joke, Clarkson told the two she had unflattering pictures of them that TMZ would love in order to blackmail them to be in the show with her. The trio then performed “Silent Night.”
On her own, the former American Idol winner, Clarkson, performed many songs off her first Christmas album, “Wrapped in Red,” including the album’s title track, “My Favorite Things,” “Please Come Home for Christmas,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “Underneath the Tree.”
Just as Clarkson tried to talk her assistant out of the idea to include him in the show’s finale, Blake Shelton appeared. He was very eager to be a part of the show, but Kelly only wanted him to hem and iron her clothes. Later on, Clarkson fired her assistant for not confirming George Clooney for the finale. She then tried to get Robin Williams, Natalie Cole, Whoopi Goldberg, Heidi Klum, and Danica Patrick to join her instead, but they all kept suggesting she ask Blake Shelton.
Feeling frustrated, Clarkson took a stroll outside in the snow and ran into her former assistant, who sat on the street, begging for money. The two visited a nearby shelter, and Kelly sang “White Christmas.” Her assistant finally got George Clooney on the phone, but she only told him to have a Merry Christmas and informed her assistant she had a better idea.
As Clarkson performed “Underneath the Tree” for the show’s finale, she was joined on stage by kids, who all sang along with her. Fake snow even fell in the background and onto the band. (The storyteller explained Clarkson had finally learned what Christmas was all about). On her way out, Kelly ran into Blake Shelton, who was wearing an elf costume and had some choice words for Clarkson.
