Kelly Clarkson's tweet announcing her engagement to talent manager Brandon Blackstock last December made clear that she was an incredibly happy bride-to-be. But in an interview with People Magazine on Wednesday, the superstar singer admitted to a bit of shock before the happiness set in.
Clarkson, 30, told People that she was completely unprepared for the the proposal, which happened while the two were enjoying some down time at their home in Nashville. "[I didn't have] a damn clue!" she admitted. "If I did I would have worn something besides Uggs and a sweatshirt with no bra!"
The always candid Clarkson opened up to People about her trouble finding love in the past. "I was dating skinny jeans and I needed Wranglers," she explained. But once she met Blackstock, 36, everything changed.
"I've never been loved properly by a man," the singer says. "I was just like 'thank you so much for that,'" she told the magazine. Little did she know Blackstock was preparing to get down on one knee and present her with a stunning engagement ring featuring a canary diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds. Says Clarkson, "I didn't know life could be this happy."
The couple plans to wed this fall in an "earthy" outdoor ceremony. It will be the first marriage for both.
