Kelly Clarkson performed an outstanding rendition of “My Country 'Tis of Thee” during President Barack Obama's 2013 inauguration. According to The Huffington Post on Monday, Jan. 21 the United States Marine Band joined Kelly Clarkson during her performance.
Originally Kelly Clarkson was not going to vote for President Barack Obama and instead showed her support for Republican Ron Paul. However, during Obama's campaigning for his second term in office he was able to change Kelly Clarkson's mind when he announced his support of gay marriage.
The circumstances surrounding Kelly Clarkson's decision to originally vote for Ron Paul did not deter President Obama from inviting Kelly Clarkson to become the first singer to perform during his 2013 inauguration ceremony.
President Barack Obama certainly held true to Kelly Clarkson's reason for voting for him again during his inauguration speech. Barack Obama reiterated the country's purpose to make this a nation of people who strive to come together despite their differences whether it be religion, race or relationship preference.
Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law — for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well. Our journey is not complete until no citizen is forced to wait for hours to exercise the right to vote. Our journey is not complete until we find a better way to welcome the striving, hopeful immigrants who still see America as a land of opportunity.
