Kelly Clarkson mushrooms: Stuffed hors d'oeuvres helped with inauguration song (Video)

Could Kelly Clarkson mushrooms be the secret to singing success? They were for the singer herself, as she admits the tasty hors d'oeuvres were the key to her being able to sing live and in person, without lip syncing.

According to TMZ's report on Jan. 23, Clarkson went all out for her pre-song dinner the night before the Presidential Inauguration. She and some friends headed to Buca di Beppo in D.C. to load up on carbs. That included lasagna, bruschetta, half-pound meatballs, spaghetti, chicken parm, a colossal brownie sundae, and yes, stuffed mushrooms.

In all the meal tallied a bill of at least $230, but it ultimately led to Clarkson being able to sing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee'" without needing to pretend she was singing live. Kelly's live performance of the patriotic song was part of the Presidential Inauguration 2013, which aired Monday on multiple local stations on including CBS affiliate WDBJ 7 and ABC affiliate WSET 13.

Kelly Clarkson rose to fame as the first-official winner of "American Idol," the popular FOX singing competition show. However, back then there was no mention of stuffed mushrooms aiding in her victory.
