Kellan Lutz credits the low-carb Paleo diet and CrossFit training for his rippling physique. Lutz, a former high-school football star, doesn't let constant travel hamper his workout routine.

"I have a healthy, active lifestyle, and a lot of the hotels I stay at don’t have gym facilities," Lutz told Daybreak. "So I like to get active on the airplane. I get a bit fidgety, so I’ve created a couple of workout devices just to help with the training."

Kellan is most famous for playing the hulking vampire Emmett Cullen in the blockbuster "Twilight" franchise, and also recently bulked up to play the demi-god Hercules in the action flick, "The Legend of Hercules."

'Paleo Diet Gave Me Tons Of Energy'

The former Calvin Klein model understands that his job is to look good, so he makes sure to eat well and work out regularly. Lutz switched to the low-carb Paleo diet several months and has never felt better.

"I adopted the Paleo diet," he told Knoxville.com. "It helped me because I had tons of energy. It made me even more healthy and able to stay sick-free and push, because I pushed myself quite a bit."

Kellan started following the Paleo diet and doing CrossFit last summer to get in shape for "The Legend of Hercules." The chiseled 6-foot-1 heartthrob said the Paleo diet enabled him to reduce body fat and helped him stay healthy despite lots of grueling training and a rough shooting schedule.

The Paleo diet emphasizes high-quality animal proteins, fats, vegetables and fruits, and excludes gluten, sugar, dairy, legumes, starches, alcohol and processed foods. It is the most popular diet today, and boasts a huge celebrity following, including NBA superstars Kobe Bryant and Ray Allen, actress Megan Fox, and supermodel Adriana Lima.

Health expert Chris Kresser, author of Your Personal Paleo Code, said the Paleo diet promotes weight loss, lowers blood pressure, and prevents cancer, diabetes, heart disease, depression, and even Alzheimer's.

“Clinical trials have shown the Paleo Diet is the optimum diet that can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, blood pressure, markers of inflammation, help with weight loss, reduce acne, promote optimum health and athletic performance,” said Loren Cordain, author of The Paleo Answer.

'I'm an Action Junkie'

Lutz said eliminating sugar from his diet was difficult at first, but he's glad he did it. "I ate a lot of proteins but it was really hard deleting the candy from my system because I love candy. You really just notice that your body will adjust, and you feel healthier."

Lutz's training for "The Legend of Hercules" involved lots of weight-lifting, horseback-riding, fighting with swords and coordinating action scenes with stuntmen. While it was tough, the athletic Kellan enjoyed the hard work.

"I'm an action junkie at heart," he said. "I love pushing myself to the limit. I love mixed martial arts, weapons training, guns, knives, driving fast cars, and motorcycles. I love it all."
