Thursday night's rainstorms forced country star Keith Urban to cancel his concert at the Austin360 Amphitheater. Urban was scheduled to play at 9:00pm but after both Dustin Lynch and Little Big Town completed their sets (photos in slideshow), fans were notified of an emergency evacuation due to the incoming storm. This was the first evacuation performed at the Circuit of the Americas racetrack and staff swiftly steered the fans in the ‘pit’ shelter until the storm passed. The pit area is quite a distance away from the Amphitheater but all went well and fans were safe and patient. Following the storm, fans who needed assistance were bussed back to the main gate to avoid the long walk.
Urban and his band had hoped to play a shortened show after the storms passed, according to posts on Twitter, but the performance was nixed after it was discovered some equipment had been damaged. During the hour-long evacuation period, Keith Urban reached out via Twitter (@KeithUrban) from his tour bus that was parked behind the stage. He encouraged people to send him pictures from the pit and even took time to send out a birthday shout-out to a fan waiting out the storm.
Keith Urban additionally reached out the his audience by sending out two video chats from his tour bus. The first was when it looked hopeful that the show would resume after the storm had passed. Just before 11 pm, however, a sad Urban sent a sincere video apology to fans and said he hoped to reschedule the concert.
‘I'm fully dressed ready to play on the bus in Austin, and they tell us we have no lights, no production ... nothing because of the storm, so we can play and I'm so so sorry everbody" he said. 'I'm just ... really frustrated. 'Hopefully we are going to get a chance to reschedule this because we were all ready to play... we'll figure it out. God Bless you guys in Austin'.
No word yet on whether the show will be rescheduled and/or if refunds are being offered. Fans were told to check the Austin360 Amphitheater website.
