Keith Urban might collaborate with Nicki Minaj, also praises Taylor Swift

NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 4, 2013 - Australian-bred Keith Urban is currently serving out his six-month commitment on American Idol, alongside industry staple Randy Jackson, R&B legend Mariah Carey and the ever controversial Nicki Minaj. Earlier this season, the Minaj-Carey battle came to a boiling head, as the two divas clashed over one particular contestant. The skirmish has since subsided, but all the while, Urban found himself taking sides during the explosive argument.

Married to actress Nicole Kidman, the couple has two lovely daughters Sunday, 5, and Faith, 3, and the singer admits that his female experience has helped him on the Idol judging panel. "Sure, it all does, right?" he tells Country 925. "I usually roll pretty well with most things, and I love passionate people."

He adds, "I love artists, and you have four passionate people up at that desk. So, I knew that going into it, and I was hoping everybody would just be themselves. I think we've definitely got the four of us being ourselves."

Urban is currently writing and recording his forthcoming album. No release date is yet set, but the guitar-toting musician promises things are in motion. "I think we've got a couple of singles ready to go," he reveals. "And I just want to make sure we've got the record, the whole album, mostly done before we go with the first single. You know, when you put a single out, you've, no pun intended, lit the fuse for when the album's gonna come out. So, I'm just so jonesing for people to hear the music we've been working on."

On a possible Minaj collaboration on the record, he says, "I haven't found anything that would work so far. So, who knows."

Heading into Sunday's 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, fellow singer-songwriter Taylor Swift is up for the nights' biggest honor, Entertainer of the Year. If the 23-year-old songstress nabs the title, it will be her third consecutive win and mark her as the only female in history to do so.

Urban weighs in on the possibility, "I have no idea. She is certainly worthy of it, though. You know, the kind of concerts she puts on, not just the amount of people she's playing to. You gotta remember, it's globally too. But I really think she puts on an exceptional concert."
