Keith Urban is known for his good looks, country rock and party atmosphere concerts. Things took an ugly turn on Saturday, July 26 while Urban performed at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, outside of Boston.
According to E! Online, 46 unfortunate concert-goers were treated for alcohol-related illnesses (22 transported to a local hospital, and 24 were attended to on scene). Approximately 50 others were placed in protective custody with some possibly facing criminal charges.
The Country music star Urban, 46, played in front of roughly 18,000 people at the event. According to the Boston Herald there have been security concerns about the lawn area at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA for some time now.
“Last evening’s Keith Urban concert was not anticipated to present with the volume of issues handled, but measures were in place to provide appropriate and adequate care and protection to all patrons,” said Mansfield, Massachusetts Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini and Police Chief Ronald Sellon, in a joint statement.
The popular Country Aussie is married to actress Nicole Kidman. Urban has publicly acknowledged his struggles with alcohol and posted a YouTube video shortly after the concert to thank fans for their support.
"What a great night tonight, I always want to say Boston but we technically were in Mansfield tonight, but it was killer. So everybody from Massachusetts who came out, we had folks traveling everywhere to come to the show tonight, thank you very much," he said before alluding to the rukkus. "Gosh, up on the lawn tonight, that was nutso, it was so cool. Anyway if you came tonight, thank you for giving us all the love and energy. It's been an amazing weekend and we're just getting started on this Raise 'Em Up tour so thank you for making it so special. Boston strong, I love you."
At this time there are no explanations as to why there seemed to be a higher volume of alcohol related incidents than normal for the venue.
Keith Urban is currently in the midst of his Raise 'Em Up Tour. The closest the tour will come to the Monterey Bay area will be on Sep 06, 2014 Sat 7:00 PM at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. The line up includes Keith Urban, Brett Eldredge and Jerrod Niemann.
