Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj have joined ‘American Idol’

Katie Couric may have let it slip on Friday, but now its official Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj will be joining “American Idol” as judges. Fox made the official announcement just a few hours ago confirming the rumors that have been flying around for weeks.

The duo will replace Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Mariah Carey completes the panel of judges and Randy Jackson is still on board for mentoring. The producers at “Idol” are hoping to boost the shows sagging ratings with an all-star lineup of judges.

Signing Nicki Minaj is key to bringing up sagging demographics and Keith Urban will bring in the country fans. The show has lacked a true Country Music following until now. Urban boasts 14 number one hits in the U.S. and has won the Grammy for best male vocalist four times out of the last six years.

Jackson is the only judge left from the original panel in 2002. This time Jackson is not going to be a judge but he and Ryan Seacrest are the only original on air members of the cast.
