Hide the women and children – or at least the women anyway. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers announced March 11 that celebrated Rolling Stones guitarist – and legendary bad boy – Keith Richards is collaborating with artist daughter Theodora Richards on “Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar.”

The iconic rocker, sometimes best-selling author – and grandfather of five – teamed up with Barnaby Harris and Bill Shapiro to craft the autobiographical story revolving around Richard’s youthful introduction to the joy of music through his relationship with his beloved granddad, Theodore Augustus Dupree, affectionately known as “Gus.”

Richards spoke of the special connection he shared with his grandfather in yesterday’s press release. “I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I’m talking about,” said the acclaimed musician. “The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured. This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me.”

The picture book promises to provide music fans with an intimate look into the life of one of the music industry’s history makers. Richards’ publisher Megan Tingley recognized the significance of the tome in yesterday's release. “Who wouldn’t welcome the opportunity to meet Keith Richards as a young boy? 'Gus & Me' invites readers to be in the room at the electrifying moment that Keith holds a guitar in his hands for the first time.”

Richards’ daughter Theodora – who coincidentally is named after her great-grandad – contributes to the cause with her remarkable pen-and-ink collages. "Gus & Me" will also include selected photographs from the Richards family collection.

“When I found out they wanted me to be a part of this project, my immediate instinct was to say yes, and I am so happy I did,” said the talented artist. “To be able to explore my father’s relationship with his grandfather was a gift in itself. The things that I’ve learnt during this whole process have just been life affirming.”

The best-seller-to-be will be simultaneously released in hardcover and ebook on Sept. 9, 2014, with the hardcover edition including an exclusive audio CD featuring bonus book content.

And uh, don’t be surprised if the talented Mr. Richards comes out with his own line of designer jeans in the fall…
