Keith Richards is once again fueling speculation that there will be a new Rolling Stones album and tour in 2011. He told a German newspaper that the Stones may be planning something for June 2011, followed by a tour. In the interview, he also responded to the media firestorm over his insults about Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger that were in Richards’ memoir "Life."
When asked about a new Stones album and tour, guitarist Richards told the Frankfurter Rundschau in its November 12, 2010 issue: "We are looking forward to next June, then we will go on tour together again."
Given that it takes approximately a year or more to plan a Rolling Stones tour, it is highly unlikely that a new Rolling Stones tour will kick off in the summer of 2011. If there is any new Stones project that will happen in the summer of 2011, it will most likely be the recording or release of a new Stones album.
As previously reported, the press office for the Rolling Stones has denied that there are any firm plans for a new Stones album and tour in 2011. The press office issued this statement in early November 2010: "There are no concrete plans for the Rolling Stones to tour. The same applies to rumors that they are going into the studio soon to record a new album."
The Rolling Stones’ most recent studio album of new material is 2005’s Grammy-nominated "A Bigger Bang." The band toured for the album from 2005 to 2007.
Richards and fellow Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood have said in interviews that the band will have a summit in December 2010 to discuss the Stones’ future plans.
In the meantime, Richards has spent the early part of November 2010 in Europe doing publicity for his autobiography "Life."
In the Frankfurter Rundschau interview, Richards also talked about his relationship with Jagger and the provocative insults about Jagger that Richards has in Richards’ memoir, including Richards saying that Jagger’s penis is "a tiny todger."
When asked about all the media headlines that the book got for those insults, Richards responded: "Affection is not good for headlines. I knew this course before. I do not care. Mick and I are like brothers … And when you mix two brothers locked in a confined space for too long, it crashes very often. There were often fights between us, when he had lead singer syndrome. All this I could not and would not leave out of my book; it would not have been honest. It often gave trouble, but in the end we came together again and again. The wounds heal quickly."
Richards also had this to say when he was asked if he had second thoughts about putting in the memoir the negative remarks about Jagger’s genitals: "Well, since I have opened old wounds, that's part of my history … I know that I have for years driven Mick to anger with my behavior. Mick was one of the first people given the book to read. He knew what to expect. He was prepared for it."
As previously reported, "Life" (which went on sale on October 26, 2010) debuted at No. 1 on most U.S. and Canadian bestseller lists for hardcover nonfiction, and remained at the top of those charts in its second week. In addition to being a bestseller, "Life" has gotten mostly positive reviews from critics, who have praised the memoir for its candid style.
