Born Dec. 18, 1943, few people have lived life as hard and fast as the iconic rock superstar and survived to tell the tale. Rock n’ roll’s most talented and notorious badboy, who spent 10 years atop the“celebrity most likely to die” list, snorted his fathers ashes, nearly died falling out of a tree, punctured a lung in a car accident, battled heroin, landed repeatedly in jail, nearly electrocuted himself, survived countless car crashes, two homes burning down around him, and being knocked unconscious by flying garbage! Amidst all that madness, Richards has helped create some of the finest rock albums and songs ever recorded.
Though it's been 40 years since NME s infamously placed Keef atop their list of rock stars “most likely to die” in 1973, the rocker dubbed "the world's most elegantly wasted human being" carries on like some rock n' roll Energizer Bunny.
Far from dying or becoming a total burnout, Richards and The Stones have enjoyed a hugely successful and creative year in 2013. Their AEG Live produced 50 and Counting Tour was among the year's highest grossing tour, earning a Billboard Touring Award. The concert film of their 2013 Hyde Park shows, titled "Sweet Summer Fun - Hyde Park Live" debuted at No. 1 on Billboard; The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honored "The World's Greatest Rock n' Roll Band" in the fall with an all-star tribute and they earned Band of the Year honors at the 2013 Classic Rock Awards.
With the announcement of a 2014 Asia Pacific tour leg - dubbed "14 on Fire" - along with recent news of The Stones scoring three nominations at the 2014 Grammy Awards, don't count on Richards or his bandmates fading away anytime soon.
Did you know? Rolling Stone magazine credits Keith Richards for "rock's greatest single body of riffs" on guitar and currently rank him at No. 10 on its list of 100 best guitarists.
