With the support of St. Louis Businesses for Backstoppers, Keetons Double Play in south city is kicking off spring with their first annual karaoke competition to benefit The Backstoppers. The contest began with its first qualifying round on Tuesday, April 12 and will continue with more qualifiers starting at 8 p.m. April 14, 19, and 26; May 3, 10, 19, and 26; and June 2, 2011. All donations will go directly to The Backstoppers and memberships will be available each night.
After each qualifying round, one male and one female will be chosen to continue to the finale – with a total of 20 singers invited to sing on Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m. Prizes for the grand finale are to be determined by Keetons Double Play and other local sponsors.
Contestants must be 21 or older, and no rap songs or vulgarity are allowed. Duets are allowed only in qualifying rounds, but singers will be individually judged.
Keetons Double Play is a 2,000 sq. ft. restaurant and sports bar, featuring several TVs, arcade games (including Golden Tee and Big Buck Hunter), dart leagues, and karaoke. It was named Best Karaoke in 2009 by the River Front Times.
The Backstoppers was founded in 1959 with the goal of providing support to the families of local and county police officers, firefighters, and others who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
