Here are some things you may or may not know about oral hygiene. First of all we all know that bacteria harbors in the mouth. We all know that we must brush our teeth to aid in combating these bacteria and plaque. Baby white teeth

According to WebMD, some babies are born with a full set of primary teeth though they do not extend from the gums until about six months of age. Baby teeth look whiter because the enamel on their teeth is thinner. If you are looking for baby white teeth you are more than likely going to have to speak to your dentist about it before going out and trying all the products on the market today.

Dental sealants

Dental sealants are a good way to protect the teeth from decay and provide good oral hygiene. One application can prevent food from entering the crevices sometimes for years.

Whitening toothpastes

Some people try whitening toothpastes to get back those baby white teeth. Whitening toothpastes will take the surface stains off teeth for good oral hygiene, but they do not actually change the color of teeth. You would have to go to the dentist for whitening treatments if you desire whiter teeth.

Black furry tongue

Some people may have what looks like a black hairy tongue. This condition is caused by bacteria that get caught in the tiny projections on the tongue which grows longer than usual in some people’s mouths. The bacteria give the impression of a furry tongue. This too can be controlled by good oral hygiene.

Hot and cold foods

Hot and cold foods should never bother the teeth. If your teeth are sensitive to the temperature of food this may be an indication of gum disease, receding gums, cavities, worn down fillings, or a fractured tooth. You would have to see a dentist to determine the exact cause and have the problem corrected.

Knocking out your tooth

If your tooth has been knocked out if possible, try to put it back in without touching a nerve. You can also hold your tooth in your mouth between your gums and your cheek. If you can’t do that, put your tooth in a glass of milk until you get to the dentist. The moisture will preserve the tooth.
