Before we all get too excited about the possible new Hollywood couple, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, I gotta say I'm not buying it! Something isn't right about this very public display of budding love.
Honestly, I purposely waited a few days after the news broke of the new 'hip-pop' couple to see what other deets would follow. Here's what I found out today:
1) Kanye West - the king of publicity/media manipulation, is possibly joining the cast of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians".
2) Refer to No. 1
Perez Hilton told B96/Chicago today his sources confirmed Mr. West is set to appear on the E! hit reality show for more than one appearance.
Perez explained, “It’s his (Kanye’s) choice to appear on there, however, Kim is apparently the reluctant one, having learned her lesson with the whole Kris Humphries fiasco.” Adding, "It will be must-see TV!"
We all know West has a way of creating a buzz around himself and whatever he's working on at the time. Let's not forget the media frenzy he and fellow rapper 50 Cent created around their albums being released on the same day, September 11, 2007.
Do you remember? It was a classic and well orchestrated battle, between West's "Graduation" and 50's "Curtis" which helped both camps' record sales. West walked away No.1 the first week, selling 957,00 units and 50 Cent at No. 2 with 691,000.
Kim and Kanye: Timing is everything
The old saying goes "Timing is everything." Isn't it a bit odd the day following Kanye's semi-leak of his new single "Theraflu" - in which he professes his love for Kim, the pair spent the entire evening together checking out three New York hotspots, then the reality star makes a very public (and questionable) walk of shame from West's New York apartment the next morning and now they are an item?
Something's just not right.
Hey, don't get me wrong. I want Kim to FINALLY find love. Honestly, I do. I was among the millions of people who watched her two-day E! wedding special to Humphries and hoped for a happy-ever-after ending, instead Kris was served divorce papers after only 72 days of Kardashian bliss. (Ouch!)
“After the Kardashian wedding fraud, I don't believe anything Kim does, so of course it’s a publicity stunt," said "Cult of Celebrity" author Cooper Lawrence to the Huffington Post. "Every tweet, every word out of her mouth, everything she wears is geared toward publicizing herself or selling products."
"Celebrities with genuine relationships want to hide them, not flaunt them. They have more respect for their personal life than that, but as we learned from Kim Kardashian and her fake wedding, she'll exploit anything."
Questionable: Kim K does a public 'walk of shame'
Okay, so the longtime friends were seen getting extra cozy at three different New York hotspots last Wednesday, with the reality star leaving West's apartment the following morning. She was driven to her hotel by West's personal driver, then met back up with the rapper just hours later for shopping and lunch with friends. Coincidence of us finding out all of these juicy details? Probably not.
Someone had to tip off the paparazzi. That's how it works. Photogs aren't just hanging around celebrities all of the time waiting for something to happen. Phone calls are made so people get to the right place at the right time.
It's as if the new couple wanted us to know they are doing something together.
Kanye professes his love for Kim
In "Theraflu" the rapper admits his feelings for the reality star have been in the making for a while now.
"And I admit I fell in love with Kim
'Round the same time she fell in love with him
Well that's cool, babygirl do your thing
Lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the team"
However, this isn't the first time rumors of a romance between the longtime friends have circulated. Both Kris Humphries and Kanye's ex Amber Rose believe there was something going on between the 'friends'. (See: Kris Humphries gives Kanye West advice on Kim K: 'Good luck, dude') So maybe it is real love and not just for publicity?
True love or publicity stunt?
Oh, I hate to say it but it's hard to trust what Kim K has to say. After the fake wedding, a large portion of America - you know, the reality TV junkies, who actually follow the ridiculous storylines - feel hoodwinked and bamboozled, myself included.
Hey, maybe Kim has finally found true love with Kanye - a longtime friend who 'gets' the Hollywood lifestyle. Someone who doesn't shy away from the lights, all of the cameras, and the constant action.
Or maybe, she is just doing a friend a favor? Simple as that. Afterall, the free publicity Kanye has received for "Theraflu" so far, is priceless.
