Each year Montrealers make New Year’s resolutions and each year they fail to keep. Have you ever thought why that is?
Why do Montrealers break the New Year's resolutions that we make? It is not because we do not have good intentions. The resolutions we make are usually heartfelt and thought about for a long time prior to making them on New Years Day. The problem lies in the fact that what is not thought out, is the plan to execute the goals and or, the reality of actually being able to accomplish them.
According to many psychologists there is a serious gap between the thought of a New Year’s resolution and the actual ability to carry it out.
The Key is in realistic goal setting
Setting goals:
The best way to break a New Year's resolution, or any goal for that matter at any time of the year, is to simply dream about it yet, do nothing tangible to make it happen. New thought followers will not agree and that is what makes this world so great; we can all do what we believe to make our goals happen. Everyone else should understand that just dreaming about something is not enough to get what you want. You must have a plan of action and you must work at it to achieve your goals.
New thought people may disagree
The keywords here are to make our goals happen. This examiner bases her beliefs on personal experience and training as a therapist. New thought people, if simply believing your goals will happen or have happened already works for you go for it. This examiner also believes in the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
The problem is however, that New Years resolution do get broken and we have to find ways to fix that.
