So the honeymoon is over. Now what?
It's time to go back to work, grocery shop, catch up with family and friends and tackle that mountain of dirty laundry you just pulled from your suitcase. Welcome back to real life.
It probably doesn't matter if you've been married two weeks or 20 years, sometimes the drudgeries of everyday life can be discouraging. In any marriage, it's important to keep a certain level of excitement in your relationship. If you don't take the time to just enjoy each other and do something besides your daily duties, your marriage will become pretty ho-hum.
So, to ward off monotony, a couple must change the scenery once in awhile. A great, inexpensive way to do that (without traveling to a faraway place) is to spend a night at a hotel right in your hometown--just the two of you. Lounge by the pool or soak in the hot tub, order room service, enjoy a continental breakfast. You'd be surprised how renewing just getting out from under your own roof for a night can be. If cash is not a problem, stay two. Several Dayton hotels like the Super8 and Days Inn offer rooms for under $50 a night.
Something else that should be high on your to-do list is a weekly date night. Go for dinner and pretend like you're still dating. Gentlemen, that means opening doors and footing the bill. Ladies, tell him how handsome he looks and play a little footsie with him under the table. If you're a little more cultured, go watch a theater production. The Dayton Playhouse is showing "Cabaret" through September 13 and tickets are only $15 a person. If you're museum-type people, visit the National Museum of the US Air Force. There, you can see and tour all kinds of airplanes and watch some great IMAX films that play throughout the day.
The bottom line is that you need to spend some time together doing things you both enjoy outside your home. It will strengthen your relationship and help preserve that newlywed feeling. Who says the honeymoon has to be over?

Being 'present' or 'in the moment' in whatever you decide to do together can bring freshness to a relationship. Put everything else on the back burner and concentrate on the time you are sharing.
