School is about to let out for summer and while you want your kids to have free time to play and engage in family activities, it's good to encourage them to keep learning. Summer reading programs are offered through many public libraries in the Salt Lake City area and are a great way to enhance your child's growing mind and imagination.

Salt Lake County Library Services Kid Zone provides an extensive reading resource for your kids. Search for books by reading level, category, awards and coping topics. Find educational games, movies, music and other activities as well. A couple other great resources are Reading a-z and Reading Rockets. Finding fun ways to keep your children learning during the summer will create fond memories for you all.

Additional ways to encourage your child to read

  • Read a chapter book together as a family
  • Read books together at bedtime
  • Help your kids put on a play using props and dress-ups
  • Attend story time and events at your local library
  • Sing songs and nursery rhymes together
  • Find and recite poems
  • Create your own stage for telling stories
  • Help your kids start a journal to record their favorite summer experiences

Finding fun ways to keep your children learning during the summer will create fond memories for you all.
