Keep Things In Perspective

(Psalms 144:3-8) O LORD, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him? Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. Bow your heavens, O LORD, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke! Flash forth the lightning and scatter them; send out your arrows and rout them! Stretch out your hand from on high; rescue me and deliver me from the many waters, from the hand of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

(Hebrews 2:6-7) It has been testified somewhere, "What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor,

Perspective is so important in your walk with Christ. It is easy to lose perspective and elevate yourself to equality or even superiority to God. This might sound absurd to say or read, but if you carefully examine your actions and attitudes you might very well find yourself guilty of this. When God elevates you (and He does!) it is for His purpose and His glory; when you elevate yourself, it is pride.

One of the signs that your perspective needs adjusting is how you think, feel, and respond to the things of God. Remember that God sees and knows your innermost thoughts. How do you respond in the privacy of your own heart to things like submission to authority (all authority, not just those with whom you agree), being treated by God's people in ways you don't prefer or that might even be wrong, reading and meditating on God's Word daily, and fulfilling the tasks He has assigned to you, just to name a few.

Grumbling, complaining, anger, discontentment, and anxiety are all signs that should lead you back to the cross and to reexamine your perspective of who is the Lord of your life. God does not expect or desire you to just grin-and-bear-it when it comes to these thoughts and feelings. He has saved you from that which you could have never saved yourself; your life is no longer your own but His, and He has provided the means to experience joy, happiness, and contentment beyond anything you could even imagine. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift your up!

Check your perspective today and if you have placed yourself on the throne of your heart, get down! Know that God is God, keep things in perspective, and live in joy, peace, and true contentment.
