Keeneland sales end Friday, great deals to be had

The annual Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale is currently underway. The last day of the sale is Friday January 15, so pull your money out from under the mattress and get to Keeneland for great discounts on some beautiful horses.

Compared to last year's sale the average price of thoroughbreds being offered is up $4,000, while the overall sales are down about $10 million. On Tuesday, Grade 1 stakes winner Point Ashley sold privately for $1-million to Katsumi Yoshida. Another sold for $400,000 on Thursday.

So with one more day left, there are sure to be some great buys. Who knows, maybe you could be the owner of the next Kentucky Derby winner? Last year's Kentucky derby winner Mine That Bird was bred by Lamantia, Blackburn and Needham/Betz Thoroughbreds in Kentucky, and was a $9,500 bargain yearling at Fasig-Tipton Sales of Lexington Kentucky in 2008.

The weather will be great for a day at the track, whether you buy a horse or not, the scenery is worth the trip.
