"Keef" wins a Mailer Award for 'Life'

Who'd a-thunk it; a rock and roller wins one of the coveted Mailer Awards, given for writing excellence.

Which is what was announced today by the Normal Mailer Institute. The 2011 Mailer Award--named for author Norman Mailer--for Biography has been given to Rolling Stone guitarist Keith Richards for his autobiography, Life.

Richards recounted his life, loves, drugs, and rock and roll in his autobiography. Never pulling a punch, Richards is remarkably honest in his revelations. Whatever you think you know about him, this book reveals other sides that I bet you didn't know.

He joins the other winners for Distinguished Journalism, Gay Talese; Distinguished Writing, Arundhati Roy; and Lifetime Achievement, Dr. Elie Wiesel.

Former President Bill Clinton was on hand to give Richards the award at the ceremony in New York.

Life by Keith Richards is still available in hard cover and in paperback. You can find your copy locally from Joseph-Beth Booksellers in the Lexington Green Mall on Nicholasville Road or Barnes & Noble in the Hamburg Pavilion Shopping Center on Man o' War Blvd.
