As most of my readers know, I have been friends with and followed the career of Keaton Simons for many years. I have seen much growth in his music, especially over the past three years that he has been working with Laura Goldfarb of Red Boot PR. Simons has already garnered the title of Best Indie Live Performance of 2012, and will surely also be among the best male CDs of 2012.
Simons had a very successful Pledgemusic campaign in 2012, and released his first live album, Nowhere to Hide as a result. In addition, he spent a lot of time at Revolver Studios in Thousand Oaks, working with Mikal Blue (Colbie Cailat, One Republic) on a studio album.
Simons, who was previously signed to CBS Records, has always had a very independent streak. As a result, with the help of Croshal Entertainment Group, he has formed his own record label, Best Revenge Records. His new studio album, Beautiful Pain, will be the first album released on the new label.
Croshal has previously assisted a number of independent releases including those by Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Crosby Stills & Nash.
By creating his own label, Simons literally holds his music and his career in his own hands. Consequently, he’s not beholden to anyone, and does not have to wait for anyone at a label to “hear a hit” or approve a record or tour.
Simons has assembled a dream team of departments you’d find at any typical major label, such as radio promotion, marketing, online marketing, PR, booking, art/graphic design and management. His PR department will be headed by Goldfarb, in conjunction with Deborah Radel of DRPR, and will attack mainstream media from all angles.
As the release date gets closer, I will have more exclusive material for you. In the meantime, come down to the Hotel Cafe this Saturday night at 9 p.m. to get a taste of his music for yourself. I'm confident you'll be hopping on this train.
