Keanu Reeve's 'Side by Side' trailer is released

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming  new documentary from director Christopher Kenneally called Side by Side, starring Keanu Reeves who interviews today's great filmmamkers such as Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, George Lucas, James Cameron, David Lynch, Christopher Nolan, and many more about the digital revolution in filmmaking.

Here is the synopsis from the film's official website:

Movies were shot, edited and projected using photochemical film. But over the last two decades a digital process has emerged to challenge photochemical filmmaking.

SIDE BY SIDE, a new documentary produced by Keanu Reeves, takes an in-depth look at this revolution. Through interviews with directors, cinematographers, film students, producers, technologies, editors, and exhibitors, SIDE BY SIDE examines all aspects of filmmaking — from capture to edit, visual effects to color correction, distribution to archive. At this moment when digital and photochemical filmmaking coexist, SIDE BY SIDE explores what has been gained, what is lost, and what the future might bring.

The trailer shows little of Keanu but looks to be focused on the filmmakers and their opinions about the digital medium and how it is used. While that the topic is far from anything new, it might be worth a look to see what new insights can be gleaned about the subject.

Starring Keanu Reeves and directed by Christopher Kenneally, Side by Side comes to Orange County theaters on 2012.
