Two heated rivals have tipped-off at the TCNJ campus.
Just a few years ago, these two teams were atop the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Now, TCNJ is currently in fifth place within the conference, while Kean is second to last overall.
Yet, barring the records, these two teams will play a hard-fought game. But in their last game, the Lions won on December 1st in Union, New Jersey.
In that game, the Lions won 68-41. The Lions were led by Kelly Coughlin in this game with 15 points.
This was one of their nine conference losses for Kean. Their only conference win came against Rutgers-Camden on January 5th.
Kean won this game 61-54 at home. Brittany Turner led Kean in scoring in this game with 17 points against the Scarlet Raptors.
Kean is on a four-game losing streak. They haven't won a game since beating Rutgers-Camden.
Kean's 1-9 conference mark is only better than Rowan's conference record. The Profs are 0-9 within the conference.
The Lions, on the other hand, are 6-3 in the conference. Yet, they lose their last game to William Paterson within the conference.
The Lions lost 15 points to the Pioneers, losing 59-45. It was their worst conference loss since losing to Montclair State by 22 points (61-39) on January 9th.
Yet, the Lions are looking to beat Kean for the second time this season. In recent years, the two teams have split their two game set.
But, one has to go all the way back four years, when the Lions were able to beat Kean twice in a season. They lost a 74-72 game in Union, before winning the next two games.
The Lions won the first game at Packer Hall by 12 points, winning 73-61, on February 18, 2009. Then, ten days later on February 28, 2009, the two teams played each other for the NJAC Championship, which the Lions won 69-57.
But the Lions are only 3-2 at home this season. They haven't won a game at home since December 12, 2012 when they beat Rowan.
The Lions beat Rowan 70-41 in that game. And while it has been a while for the Lions last win at home, Kean, on the other hand, only has one road win (1-6) on the season.
Their lone road win came against Centennary College on January 3rd. Kean won this game by 22 points, winning 66-44.
Erika Jones leads the Kean scoring attack with 28.3 points per game. AnnaRose Pierre is chipping in 15.1 points per game. Jatirah Diggs is averaging 14 points per game.
No other player is averaging more than 5 points per game.
Kelly Roddy is leading the Lions balanced attack with 8.3 points per game. Tiffany DeTulio is averaging 7.8 points per game.
Kelly Coughlin and Candace Vigo are both averaging 7.4 points per game. All other Lions players are averaging 6.5 points or less per game.
