Yard Works Inc. of Warwick is known for creating beautiful outdoor living spaces and Cole Cabinets of Cranston takes care of creating beautiful indoor spaces. Today the companies are joining forces with the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation’s magnet program, to help raise awareness about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.

“The auto magnet program continues to be an extremely effective way to generate awareness to thousands and thousands of drivers on our roadways about the consequences of impaired and/or distracted driving, states KDMF Executive Director John DeCubellis. “It is our hope that together without corporate partners such as YardWorks and the Cole Cabinet Company. Inc., will reduce the number of crashes and help to save lives.”

John and Meg DeCubellis know first-hand of the devastating toll impaired driving can have on a family. October of 1999 a drunken driver killed thirteen year oldKatie DeCubellis. Since then, the Foundation has strived to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence and distracted driving.

Driving under the influence and distracted driving is a dangerous epidemic on America's roadways. According to the latest Centers for Disease Control statistics in 2010, 10,228 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third of all traffic-related deaths in the United States.

Those startling statistics have propelled Rhode Island businesses and organizations to team up with the KDMF. AAA Southern New England, Almeida Plumbing, Big Blue Bug Solutions, Cole Cabinets, Del’s Lemonade, Munroe Dairy, SeaScape, Wesco Oil, Yard Works are all participants for the second year in this campaign to help keep the roadways safe.

After reading about the KDMF magnet program Cole Cabinet Company contacted KDMF, “It was an awesome feeling to know that the message about impaired and distracted driving is reaching the public and that through this awareness program potential sponsors, like Cole Cabinet, are concerned enough to reach out to the KDMF to become a part of this program.”

“At Cole Cabinet we have a terrific group of fellows working for us and they log a lot of miles every day making deliveries, going to job sites and picking up materials,” states Kathy McMahon, Director of Marketing at Cole Cabinet Co., Inc. “All of these people have families and loved ones who depend on them and we want them to be safe. Not to mention that two of these young men are my nephews!”

With more than forty vehicles on the road Yard Works Inc, is again paving the way to help make the road safer, “For the second year, Yard Works Inc. is proud to continue it’s support of the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation, to help save lives. We believe that awareness of this growing problem is major step towards reducing the number of deaths on the roadways, from drunk drivers,” states Kevin Fox, Yard Works Inc. President. :The response to the signs on our trucks last year was dramatic. Almost daily, one of our drivers were asked about the foundation.

Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation is also hosting the Harvest Moondance Gala to also raise awareness about drinking and impaired driving. The Gala will take place Saturday September 13, 2014 at 6:00 pm. at the Dunes Club in Narragansett and features, Nancy Paolino and the Black Tie Band, Grammy nominated composer and pianist Joe Parillo, Harvard University’s acapella group “Opportunes”, Uli Gallman spinning your favorite music.
