Mayor Sly James of Kansas City, Mo. was in rare form at the inaugural launch of a townhall-styled, artistic community meeting, held at the ArtsTech Gallery building. He was primed for action by Executive Director of ArtsTech, David Sullivan. When Sullivan introed Mayor James, he stated, "Mayor Sly James can sprinkle more hope than giving out candy at a children's birthday party!" To wit, Mayor James chuckled, laughed and said, " In this day and age we must be careful with that kind of talk, considering the negative events happening with children in this world." He also stated, (in real time) "that we should express our condolences for one of Kansas City's most prolific nonprofit activist and philanthropist, Mrs. Adele Hall(wife of Board Chairman, Don Hall-Hallmark Cards), who had just passed away in Hawaii, earlier that day."
Mayor James went on with the business at hand, but not before zinging a couple of jocular remarks, aimed at his recent political nemesis, Mike Burke, Esq. (but now on board as the Mayor's Program Chairman), for the launching of Envision Arts and Culture in KC (ACKC). This was to the delight of the assembled throng of artists, musicians and business owners. Who took time out of their daily lives, to come listen and be a part of this historical gathering, of talented & seasoned minds. Who now would voice their concerns, fears, wants and desires about this new community program. Plus, there were more uplifted spirits with the knowledge, that their expressed feedback sessions are condoned, with the full backing of the Kansas City's Mayor's Office.
After the Board Members of ArtsTech gave us more on the tenets of its school history, we broke out into facilitated groups with designated people, instructed to keep notes, write & capture feedback, for the Chairman Mike Burke(who during the election ran against Mayor James) and his staff, to report back to Mayor James their culled findings, for possible future implementation by the city.
