The Kansas City Chiefs are on their bye week and maybe that is a good thing for defensive lineman Shaun Smith. Smith has been accused of, and now caught on video while, grabbing opponents' genitals during routine tackles.
The legend of Shaun Smith began when the Chiefs played the Cleveland Browns in the NFL's week 2 contest. Alex Mack received a 15-yard penalty for committing a personal foul when he hauled off and socked Smith. He later admitted it was all about the man region.
This past Sunday during the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the KC Chiefs, Shaun Smith was at it again and this time there is video to demonstrate the creepy behavior. Anthony Davis, an offensive lineman for the 49ers, was bending down towards a pile of men after a tackle when Smith struck again.
Davis reacted like he'd been shocked by a bad light socket, while taking his own hand and pulling Smith's away from his private parts. His retaliation blow came immediately thereafter. You know that officials always see the reaction shot, not the one that provoked it. Anthony Davis was penalized as you'd expect.
We all know about players baiting opponents, with the hope of rattling them into committing a penalty. I would suggest that Shaun Smith has gone far afield in that effort.
Davis spoke to Bay Area media. "He tried to feel me," Davis said of Smith. "That's weird, right?" You, sir, are correct. This isn't dog pile behavior during which anything goes, and no one tells the dirty little secrets of what goes on when players are fighting for a loose ball.
This Shaun Smith stuff is happening during unremarkable moments in a game. Is he a sex offender in a football uniform? Probably not, and of course what real manly NFL player wants to whine to an official when he gets flagged that Smith had fondled him? So what's a guy to do?
The NFL office is officially mum on the subject, although with the media coverage it's getting and the new video to watch you have to think they are aware of it. If the league isn't ready to come down on Smith, perhaps it's time for a Code Red.
Michael Wilbon said on Monday that it was time for a coach of the Chiefs' next opponent to pick out a guy that is expendable if suspended, to take care of Smith with a preemptive strike. That might be the way to go, although, a coach might find himself suspended or fined as well if word got out that there was a plan of retaliation.

its all about ball control, GO CHIEFS,
Shaun Smith is just trying to do what any good defensive lineman is trying to do: Get a sack.
And there is the problem: there are sacks and then there are...sacks
