It appears that the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night without the services of cornerback Brandon Flowers or tight end Anthony Fasano, with both players nursing injuries sustained during last Sunday’s win over Dallas.
Several news outlets report that Flowers (knee) is listed as “questionable” on the Chiefs injury report after being limited during practice this week. Fasano is regarded as “doubtful” because an ankle injury has kept him out of practice.
Cynical Chiefs fans might be speculating that Flowers is really suffering the after-effects of third-degree burns on his back after being burned early and often by Dallas wide receiver, Dez Bryant during the Cowboys game. Bryant toasted Flowers for 5 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown in the first half alone and finished the game with 9 catches for 141 yards, but just the one touchdown.
The Chiefs will need Flowers this week as the Eagles are playing in new head coach Chip Kelly’s high-octane offense that is currently ranked #2 in the NFL behind the Denver Mannings, er … Broncos. If Flowers cannot play, Sean Smith will likely draw the assignment of covering Eagle receiver DeSean Jackson.
Fasano’s injury prompted the Chiefs to re-sign Kevin Brock earlier this week to play tight end in case Fasano and back-up Travis Kelce cannot play. If both cannot play, the Chiefs will be down to Sean McGrath and Brock, who was cut at the end of training camp three weeks ago.
