Cox, who played with KBC in the fall of 2008, an Under Armour, Rawlings, and Louisville Slugger High School All-American at Pleasure Ridge Park in Louisville. In his career with the Panthers, he batted .449 with 33 home runs, and went 38-3 with a 1.03 ERA and 495 strikeouts over 300 innings on the mound. As a senior, he was named Mr. Baseball in Kentucky as a senior and was the MVP of the state tournament.
The left-handed hitting infielder continued his trend of success at the University of Arkansas, where he was
a 2009 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, a NCBWA Second-Team Freshman All-American, and a selection on the SEC All-Tournament and NCAA All-Norman Regional tournament teams. He set Arkansas' freshman record for home runs in a season, was a Rivals.com preseason top 10 impact freshman, Baseball America's Preseason No. 4 Newcomer in the SEC and No. 5 freshman prospect.
That summer, Cox suited up for the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League, and was named to the West All-Star Team, winning MVP honors during the All-Star Game after a pair of RBI hits and a run scored. Overall, he batted .344 in 23 games, and was named the No. 6 prospect in the league.
After tearing up the SEC as a sophomore in 2010 to the tune of a .429 batting average with only 37 strikeouts in 238 plate appearances, Cox was selected 25th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2010 MLB Draft, and hit .400 in 15 games of action for the Gulf Coast League Cardinals.
Cox just finished up a stint in the prestigious Arizona Fall League, where he was named an AFL Rising Star.
