Flynn played high school ball for Henry Clay, and was the Lexington City Player of the Year as a senior after batting at a .476 cllip with 11 home runs and 47 RBI. The state's leader in home runs was also named the 11th Region Player of the Year and was a first-team all-state honoree.
The left-handed hitting outfielder had a breakout 2010 at Morehead State, batting .326 with 10 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs and 51 RBI. On March 31, he was named the national Player of the Week by CollegeBaseballInsider.com, after hitting .588 with four home runs and 16 RBI in just four games. He also hit two doubles, a triple, scored seven runs and slugged 1.529 that week.
Flynn played last summer in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and was an all-star for the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
