If you’re looking for something new and exciting to do in the New Year consider a rather unusual kayaking tour to the Amazon. Tofino Expeditions just announced a unique trip with aboriginal guides and a naturalist that takes you paddling through the river systems of the Ecuadorian Amazon around Yasuni National Park.
After a day on the water, you return by motorized dugout canoe to the one of the three deluxe jungle lodges.
The Amazon kayaking tour, which is designed for adventure seekers, uses tropical expedition sea kayaks that give up close views of exotic wildlife, flora and fauna and wild landscapes of a region that is believed to have been a Pleistocene Refuge-- where numerous species survived extinction during periods of dramatic climatic change.
Housing is in three deluxe jungle lodges that offer creature comforts such as hot showers and comfy beds. Tours are scheduled for on April 25 - May 3, Oct 31 - Nov 8, Dec 17 – 25, 2014. Rates are $4,390 a person. For more information or to book a trip, visit www.tofino.com .
If you've never been down the Amazon you really need to watch the accompanying video, what an amazing journey.
