Kaufman County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 695 calls for service from December 31, 2012 to January 6, 2013. Amongst those calls was a burglary attempt in Forney and a vandalism call in Scurry Rosser. There is also an update regarding the former Kemp Police Department, which directly affects KCSO.
A would be burglar in the Windmill Farms subdivision in Forney was startled to find the homeowner at home on January 8. He was crawling through her window and when the woman screamed, the crook fled. According to inForney.com, KCSO deputies responded and caught and arrested the suspect, John Southards, elsewhere in the subdivision.
Graffiti was found at the Scurry Rosser baseball field on January 4, and deputies are looking for leads on the case. About 100 feet of fencing was vandalized with spray painted graffiti, which included painted swastikas.
There has been an update regarding the formerly disbanded Kemp Police Department. KCSO took over patrol for the City of Kemp when the Council voted to get rid of their police department in May of 2012. The Council apparently has changed their minds, and has now hired Jimmy Council of Kaufman County as their new Police Chief. Rebuilding the department is underway, which means that soon some KCSO deputies will be freed up to patrol other areas of Kaufman County.
