Katz Gluten-Free review: Sliced Challah bread and Rugelech

All Katz products are made in a dedicated gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free bakery and are certified gluten-free and Kosher. The Rugelech is also soy-free. Both the Challah bread and Rugelech should be stored frozen. The packages say “thaw and serve”.

After thawing on the counter, the sliced Challah bread resembled Udi’s Gluten-Free: no need to toast, soft, and a great texture with air holes. The slices are slightly smaller than Udi’s and the bread is a bit denser with an egg taste. While Udi’s is great for sandwiches, Katz sliced Challah bread is almost as good. The ingredients in the sliced Challah bread are gluten-free flour (white rice, tapioca, arrowroot, corn, soy, potato), eggs, Palm oil, brown sugar, honey, xanthan gum, yeast, salt, flaxseed, and Apple cider vinegar.

The Rugelech is available in cinnamon and chocolate. After thawing, the cinnamon Rugelech was best when warmed in the microwave for 10 seconds. It had a nice cinnamon flavor and soft texture, but may not hold up to dunking.

The sliced Challah bread and cinnamon Rugelech were purchased at MOM’s. Katz is also sold at Shalom Strictly Kosher in Wheaton, Maryland. Katz makes many gluten-free products, including Hamantashen and sprinkle cookies, which can be ordered through their website.
