Houston has a few notable beer festivals held in and around the city each year. Last year, the west Houston suburb of Katy experienced a beer festival of its own- one that is planned for its second appearance in 2013. The event is the Katy Wild West Brewfest and it is scheduled to take place in early May. Here is some quick background information on the event:

Why: To sample some great craft beer and support local charities
The Katy Wild West Brewfest promises more of the same things that made last year’s event so memorable, plus a whole lot more. The theme this year is “Show Me Your Taps” and there are several events planned with the ultimate goal to raise money in support of the Katy Rotary and its commitment to local community causes. Some of the new events scheduled this year include:
Silent Auction- Guests can bid on several different items, with all proceeds going to support local causes.
Tap Grid Construction- Participating brewers will create their own personalized tap grid using a 2 by 4 foot plank of wood. VIP members will then vote on the best one, with a trophy awarded to the winner.
Wild West Brewfest Taste- Off- Several individuals will taste, evaluate, and vote on what they think is the best tasting beer at the festival among the dozens of excellent choices.
Besides these newer events, the Katy Wild West Brewfest will still offer plenty of great beer from across Texas and the U.S. The growing list of beers includes those distributed by Duff, Silver Eagle, Ben E. Keith, Republic, Houston Distributors etc. Food, live music, an introduction to the world of home brewing, will round out the afternoon’s festivities.
Tickets to the Katy Wild West Brewfest are available right now and are priced between $25 for general admission and $60 for VIP. Designated driver tickets are also available for just $15 each.
