October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and residents of Los Angeles have an opportunity to join the gifted Katy Perry in a cause that supports women affected by this horrific disease.
On Wednesday, October 23, 2013, Katy Perry will be featured at the Citi Presents Katy Perry’s We Can Survive concert, which will take place at the famous Hollywood Bowl. Katy will be joined by an all-female group of performers which include Sara Bareilles and Kacey Musgraves, just to name a few.
The concert will benefit the Young Survival Coalition with a portion of the proceeds going to the organization to support young women suffering from breast cancer.
Breast cancer is a form of cancer that assaults the cells of the breast. Although it can occur in men, breast cancer is more commonly found in women.
According to the American Cancer Society it predicts that in 2013 in the United States there will be (in women):
- Approximately 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer
- Approximately 46,640 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the breast. (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).
- Approximately 39,620 deaths from breast cancer
In order to see these numbers decrease it is going to require more people to become aware of this disease and get involved in supporting research that ultimately births a cure.
Los Angelenos you have a chance to play a part in this journey. Think pink and join Katy and the other performers on October 23rd and help to support this worthy cause.
