Katy Perry star spangled for Kids' Inaugural Concert (Video)

On Jan. 19, Katy Perry went all out while performing for the Kids' Inaugural Concert celebrating celebrate military families in Washington, D.C. For this special occasion, the superstar wore a striking outfit that not only provided plenty of pizzazz, but also was extremely patriotic, as proven by the many photos captured during the extremely invigorating evening event.

No doubt Michelle, Melia, and Sasha Obama, all watching with Dr. Jill Biden from their front row seats at the Washington Convention Center, were thrilled to witness this super charged performance by the "California Gurls" singer.

Katy was all gussied up in red, white and blue in a star spangled sartorial statement for which Uncle Sam would definitely approve and one that is appropriate for the "Firework" singer. Indeed, while offering such hits as "Teenage Dream" and "Part of Me," Perry was swathed in a dynamic ensemble that included a sparkly mic bedazzled with the American flag.

Her very spirited costume, overrun with all sorts of stars and stripes presented in ingenious ways, started off by featuring a bright blue skirt coupled with an eye-catching white top trimmed in blue. Soon, though, this quick-change artist shed her outfit's outer layer to expose a red-and-white striped bottom that left her shapely legs bare save for some sparkly stockings that rocked a whole lot of sequins and some cute red Mary Jane heels.

Katy Perry, who is said to be dating singer John Mayer, was on hand without her new beau. However, she was in company because also hitting the same stage were Usher, Mindless Behavior, and "Glee" stars Naya Rivera and Darren Criss. Amber Riley from the popular Fox show was up there too, moving the audience with her stirring rendition of Christina Aguilera's ballad, "Beautiful."

Meanwhile, other A-list entertainers beamed in via video link to join enthusiastic Katy Perry and her equally enthusiastic peers who showed up in person at the Washington Convention Center.

Among the luminaries who wanted to participate but who couldn't make it to the nation's capital in person for this giant opportunity were The Wanted and Ellen DeGeneres. Hollywood stars who appear in "Shake It Up" and "Big Time Rush" made time to offer a video message as well.

Meanwhile, as the video below shows, Michelle Obama spoke to the huge crowd during the Kid's Inaugural Concert, telling all in attendance, "...we wanted to host a concert to honor our military kids." Then the First Lady proceeded to say how popular an idea that was and how many famous performers wanted to join in the fun during the planning stages for putting on this particular shindig.

Sasha and Melia's mom announced the specifics, saying, "...Usher wanted to be here, Katy Perry wanted to be here...the folks from 'Glee', and all the other amazing performers, they wanted to be here, too."

Then, speaking directly to the prestigious audience that encompassed all kinds of military kids and their parents and other relatives, "...and let me tell you, they’re not here for me. They are here for all of you, because they know the kind of sacrifices that you all make every single day."

And so, as a newly shorn Michelle Obama, who now boasts some serious bangs, took the same stage as exuberant Katy Perry, both high profile women were star spangled for this huge event called the Kids' Inaugural Concert. This gathering is just one of many that take place during a long weekend packed full of exciting gatherings off all sorts and held all over Washington, D.C., all designed to celebrate the country and to commemorate Barack Obama as he is officially sworn in for his second term as President of the United States.
