Evidently the ‘Dark Horse’ star knows when an artist is “ready for a perfect storm”. With the launch of her new record label, Metamorphosis Music, Katy Perry has managed to sign her first artist, singer/songwriter Ferras Alqaisi.

Ferras grew up in Illinois, lived in Amman, Jordan and eventually settled in Southern California. These travels allowed him to hone his skills while writing songs on his Casio keyboard.

While studying at the Berklee College of Music, Ferras was eventually discovered by Limp Bizkit’s frontman, Fred Durst. But, in 2007, he signed with Capitol Records. This signing allowed him to meet with Katy Perry who also signed with the label the same year.

In 2008, Perry “kissed a girl” and she liked it. That same year, Ferras released ‘Aliens & Rainbows’ which was produced by the production team, ‘The Matrix’. This is the same production team that worked with Katy. Both under Capitol Records.

Ferras has an understanding of creating catchy music. This is evident when he co-wrote “Aftermath” for ‘American Idol’ contestant, Adam Lambert in 2010 and many others including Ricky Martin.

Perry developed a professional working relationship with the 29 year old. Their relationship is a mutual respect of constructive criticism and honesty that makes the project work.

According to ‘Daily Digest News’, Ferras states: “Her instincts are really on point” Ferras also goes on to say, “She is very blunt and doesn’t sugar-coat things, which I appreciate. Also, she gave me the freedom to do what I wanted musically and was a natural partner.”

Katy Perry’s new label, Metamorphosis Music, is under Capitol Records and has full support.

Ferras Alqaisi will be opening for Perry’s North American tour, “Prismatic World Tour”. The tour will kick off in Raleigh, North Carolina on June 22nd. For more information on tour dates in your area, click here.
