Katy Perry's Valentino Musical Notes Dress a Big Hit at the Grammy's

In my past life I wanted to be a concert pianist. I was five when I started taking piano lessons, played for 10 years, then quit never having gone past a few key favorites like Ludwig von Beethoven's Fur Elise or Moonlight Sonata. I think back to all those recitals I had played in elementary and high school. If my musical career ever took off and I had the chance to perform at New York City's Carnegie Hall or the Met, I would certainly wear pop star Katy Perry's musical note Valentino dress in a heartbeat.

29-year old Katy Perry wore a sheer, full-length, tulle Valentino gown at the 56th Grammy Award ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California yesterday. This gown is not even available yet and was the creation of Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli who found inspiration in the Italian opera.

The musical note dress included Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata score embroidered in black on the sheer, parchment colored gown. Details include a corset top with crisscross tulle bodice, more layers of floor-length tulle and a small train. It's ironic that the dress was literally inspired by music. What a better place to wear it than at the Grammy Awards. Katy looked amazing with pulled-up hair and dangling earrings. She was beaming, confident and apparently loved the dress. The look was a crowd favorite and got many favorable reviews in the press and lots of activity on Twitter.

Other styles that evening included lace floral, almost doily-like patterns worn by Beyonce, Paris Hilton and Guiliana Rancic. Ciara and Taylor Swift rocked looks in gold sparkling sequins. Out of all the looks I'd say Katy Perry's look was one of the best last evening.
