Katy Perry debuted the music video for her new single, ‘Roar,’ and it is all ready making some serious noise. The video, uploaded to the pop star’s Vevo channel Thursday (September 5), has passed the millionth view according to Youtube. The track is yet another dropped clue toward what her upcoming album, ‘Prism,’ has in store for all the Katy Kats.
Katy Perry threw fans for a loop during her recent boxing-themed VMA performance of ‘Roar,’ because the vintage music video is pure ‘junglescope.’ The story begins with Perry and a self-absorbed boyfriend who crash land in a tropical rainforest. When a tiger mauls him over, the singer is left on her own to ponder her cripplingly polite approach to their relationship which literally, almost cost her life.
Perry resembles Jane Porter as she struggles to survive alligators, tarantulas, and other dangers of the wild. As she masters the jungle, she becomes more comfortable channeling Tarzan. Each triumph that Perry overcomes is training her to face the tiger that finished off said boyfriend.
When the beast finally returns, it challenges the vine-swinging songstress to a roar stand off. Perry’s battle cry wins, and she tames the wildcat with a glittery collar and a new name: Kitty Purry.
The story matches appropriately with the pop star's signature messages about independence and self-confidence. While Katy Perry shows a tougher side than the sugary-sweet candyland babe of ‘Teenage Dream,’ the tiger isn’t completely changing her stripes. In true Katy Perry style, there is wry humor and an undeniable touch of femininity to the music video.
