Katy Perry recently appeared in public with cobalt blue hair after her husband, Russell Brand filed for divorce. "The One That Got Away" singer is no stranger to crazy colored hair. Perry’s hair has been black, red, lavender, and faded pink/blonde.
According to People Magazine, her colorist, Rita Hazan, said the “lavender was her dream shade, but was difficult to maintain as it has a high fade rate. She’s having fun with her color now.”[i] Hazan also told US Weekly "Katy wanted to go this particular color blue for a few weeks now."[ii]
Prior to blue, Katy Perry cut her locks to a pinkish blonde bob and then appeared on SNL as a honey blonde. Perhaps the blue is an extension of her feelings, although it has been rumored she may be dating Tim Tebow, or at least her ministering parents want her to.
Bright colors are great for teens and twenty year olds, however they can be difficult to maintain, as they need frequent touchups, which will be costly. Within the past year it was obvious that Perry had many different haircuts, which kept it healthy. An alternative to dying the entire head is adding colored extensions, creating colorful or tie-dye highlights or wearing feather extensions and/or feather clip-ins.
Katy Perry is a role model for young girls, as they want to emulate their pop-star idol. Long Island parents wanting to appease their teenage daughters have many alternatives before them to give the girls a splash of “Teenage Dream” color.
