Katy Perry appeared to take a page from Miley Cyrus' playbook at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. However, she didn't try to twerk—instead she rocked Miley's bizarre double-bun look with a bare midriff. According to a Sept. 21 report by MTV News, Katy did jump rope just like she did at the MTV Video Music Awards, so maybe she's trying really hard to make jump roping the new twerking.
Katy's concert look was a mishmash of styles. She donned a Catholic school girl skirt, Converse sneakers, knee pads, and a leather top with straps and buckles that gave it an S&M look. So she was a strange combination of Minnie Mouse, a skater chick, a "Clueless" '90s betty, and "50 Shades of Grey." The teenage dream is obviously all grown up, and she's trying to leave her cutesy Candy Land princess days behind with a new look and sound. However, Katy Perry did perform some of her classic songs at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Her setlist included "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream," and she even sang "I Kissed a Girl." So maybe there's a chance that she and Miley Cyrus will make out to the song at the MTV VMAs someday.
Katy brought Juicy J onstage for their "Dark Horse" duet, and her "Roar" performance was done in a boxing ring just like it was at the VMAs. She showed off her jump roping skills once again, and she's getting really good at it. So if you're wondering how she stays in such amazing shape, there's your answer. She also has to know that her little workout is quite a treat for her male fans (for two very obvious reasons).
But back to Katy's fashion for a minute. She's ditched her crazy, candy-coated costumes and colorful wigs for a darker look, and it's actually kind of working. It is sort of sad that she killed off her cupcake bra, but she couldn't stick with that shtick forever—no one wants to be shooting whipped cream from their breasts when they're 50.
So do you like Katy's new look?
