Katy Perry preps for world tour: My strict diet & workout program sucks

Katy Perry, who's preparing for a 95-city world tour in February, says the strict diet and exercise regimen she's on makes her feel like she's training for the Olympics.

"I'm on a meal plan, which absolutely sucks, but on Sundays I get to have a cheat day where I go buck wild and eat In-N-Out Burger," Perry, 26, says in the February 2011 issue of Rolling Stone.

"I'll work out, go to a vocal lesson, run through the entire set at rehearsals, go to dance rehearsal until 10:00 p.m. and then go home and sort through e-mails concerning the production," says Katy. "I feel like I'm training for the Olympics!"

Perry, who beat out Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie to top Maxim's Hot 100 list in 2010, is ramping up her workouts so she can sing and dance on stage every night without getting tired on her nine-month tour.

Katy, who cut back on pizza and Chinese takeout, now eats five small meals a day consisting of lean protein, healthy fats and fiber, as well as fruits and vegetables.

For exercise, Perry does circuit workouts with trainer Harley Pasternak that incorporate cardio exercise, ab work and upper and lower body strength training.

Katy was so impressed with Pink's last tour that she hired the director to work with her on her California Dreams tour, which kicks off in Portugal Feb. 20 and wraps Nov. 2, 2011 in Dublin.

Perry, who's known for her dramatic fashion style, wants her tour to be a feast for the sense in every way.

"Touring is no longer an ordinary thing where you play an instrument in jeans and a T-shirt," she says. "It has some pizazz these days, and I'm definitely bringing the pizazz with a lot of bells and whistles.

"The show has a Broadway feel to it. It's got a storyline that's going to be very interesting, kind of loosely based on my life, but a cartoon version."

Katy is also incorporating "smell-o-vision" to her tour.

"It's the first concert that's going to smell good," she says. "It's going to smell like you're in cotton candy heaven. It's a fun little nuance. I am a woman of detail, and you will be seeing that — even down to the 15 outfit changes I'm doing in concert."

Perry, who wed comedia Russell Brand, 35, in October 2010, says she wants to take time out during her world tour to enjoy some of the cities she performs in.

"This time around when people ask 'how was Barcelona?' I'm not gonna be stupid and be like, 'Uh, your room service is great,' says Katy. "That was really annoying the first time.

"I'd go to these magical places and literally just have time to taste the room service. I wanna go and see Gaudi [at the art museum] this time...I also have some two-week breathers where I can see my husband and regain some stamina."

In addition to prepping for the tour, Perry recently filmed a guest appearance on the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother.

"I just did it basically because I'm obsessed with Neil Patrick Harris," she gushes. "He's really sweet, and the cast was really nice to me and forgiving of my bad acting skills."

Katy's also working on her next music video and rehearsing for her upcoming performance at the 2011 Grammy Awards on Feb. 13.
