The land of Hollywood is witnessing another breakup. According to E! News on Feb. 26, Katy Perry and John Mayer are going their separate ways.

The breakup comes just after the music duo was the center of engagement rumors that surfaced after Perry was showing off a sparkling diamond ring. The next step in their relationship seemed inevitable, but a source close to the couple told E! News the couple is going their separate ways.

Quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest couples, Perry and Mayer began dating in 2012 after Perry’s emotional divorce from comedian/actor Russell Brand. The “Dark Horse” singer has expressed her admiration for Mayer, calling her ex-flame a “genius.” She also acknowledged being a fan of his long before she got the chance to kiss him.

The musical pair not only collaborated romantically, but they also shared their talents in musical collaboration. The two worked together on the song “Who You Love, “off of Mayer’s latest album, Paradise Valley.

Katy Perry again expressed how much she admired the songwriter when she talked about the collaboration.

“I’ve been such a fan, I think he’s so incredibly talented and gifted and a genius songwriter. So to be a part of anything he was doing was just natural.”

This isn’t the first time the couple has split. They split up briefly last March but reconciled so there is a chance this is not the end of a love song for the two singers.
